Santos will be welcomed back to Sao Paulo by Corinthians for their Brasileiro Serie A match on Saturday, just three days after cruising to a 4-0 victory over them in the Copa do Brasil.

While the visitors have only won one of their previous five games away from home, the hosts will be aiming for their fourth straight win at home.

Corinthians vs Santos Tips and Prediction

After easily defeating Santos by a score of four goals in the first leg of their Copa do Brasil last-16 match on Thursday, the Corinthians team is in a good mood.

The hosts led by three goals at the half thanks to goals from Gustavo Mantuan, Giuliano, and Raul Gustavo. In the 62nd minute, Vinicius Zanocelo of Santos was sent off for what appeared to be an elbow on Lucas Piton. Giuliano scored his second goal of the game for the Timao in the 77th minute to complete an emphatic home victory.

Corinthians must prepare for five games in all competitions, including Saturday’s league matchup with a familiar foe, before Vitor Pereira’s team can finish the job in the second leg next month.

In their last 18 encounters with Santos across all tournaments, dating back to September 2017, they had only triumphed five times.

With a win this weekend, Corinthians would tie league-leading Palmeiras, who play Avai on Sunday. Palmeiras presently sit atop the Brasileiro Serie A rankings.

Contrary to Corinthians, Santos head coach Fabian Bustos is left with a lot to think about after his team was defeated on Thursday, and the team’s chances of winning their first Copa do Brasil since 2010 appear to be all but gone for the current campaign.

In their most recent nine games across all competitions, the Alvinegro have only managed one victory, a 2-1 road victory over Juventude of the Brasilian Serie A’s bottom division earlier this month.

Santos, however, are still in a respectable position in the top-flight league as they are now in eighth place, only three points behind Athletico Paranaense in third.

Although Santos are four places higher and have two more points than they had at this point last season, there are still great expectations for the eight-time top-flight champions, and both the board and the supporters will be looking for improvements in the upcoming months.

Conclusion

Given their previous home form and easy victory against Santos in the middle of the week, Corinthians will be considered the clear favorites to win this weekend.
